Brett is an agile Cybersecurity Program Manager with extensive experience in project management and operations management in both the commercial and civilian federal government sectors. He’s a Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) with 30 years’ experience building IT lifecycle management, security and privacy engineering, and continuity planning into the design, implementation, and operation of IT Systems. He is also a community activist who has served, taught, and supported many global humanitarian, healthcare, and spiritual programs ranging from modernizing healthcare in Cambodia, providing disaster relief response in India and the US, building strong families, serving orphans and vulnerable children, and inspiring others to give back to their community.
Brett’s speaking engagements include the RSA Security Conference, the NIST Security Automation Conference, the CMS Security Controls Oversight and Update Training (CSCOUT), as well as numerous keynote addresses, breakout sessions, and panels over the past 35 years. He has addressed topics ranging from cybersecurity best practices, adopting new technologies, effective program management, as well as providing social services, spiritual counseling, and youth leadership. He is comfortable in a small classroom as well as large auditoriums, where he has addressed audiences of thousands.
Over the past nine years, he helped implement cybersecurity and privacy solutions for the healthcare industry as part of the not-for-profit MITRE Corporation including building security and privacy requirements through software assurance, penetration testing, threat intelligence management, security operations, continuous monitoring, forensics, malware analysis, and governance, risk management, and compliance (GRC) programs. Brett has served as a Technical and Program Manager as well as Information System Security Officer (ISSO) on multiple DHS Programs at DHS headquarters, the Transportation Security Agency (TSA), and FEMA’s Disaster Assistance Improvement Program (DAIP).
Brett has held leadership positions for many years including directing and supervising up to 100 IT consultants supporting numerous federal customers. As the Program and Technical Lead, he conducted systems engineering and technical evaluation for the deployment and sustainment of enterprise applications including network architecture, design, and deployment to hundreds of sites; system configuration including asset management, encryption, and patch management solutions; SOC implementation according to Computer Network Defense best practices; data center implementation and operation; and acquisition management including the development of a comprehensive suite of service level agreements.
