STEVEN RIVERA | Cyber Security Specialist | SVP Americas Sales for Trustwave | Former Director, Security Services, Verizon Terremark

Steve is a cyber security, technology, sales and business professional as well as being a seasoned speaker on many topics. He has over 20 years experience in the Information Technology industry, seventeen of which were spent specializing in information security design, development, and deployment. Steve has functioned in various roles from Sales Leader to Principle Consultant in numerous engagements with assignments encompassing corporate and program management, computer and network operations, and executive-level consulting.

Currently Steve leads the Americas Sales Organization for Trustwave overseeing US, LATAM and Canada. His Regional VPs have teams that consist of extremely skilled security specialists who are adept at analyzing client security needs and creating solutions to mitigate their risks. Previously while at Verizon in 2015, Steve took responsibility of a demoralized and fractured Security Sales Organization with 20 sales specialists. As of July 2018, Steve has recruited and trained over 22 new security sales members, along with two Regional Sales Directors to exceed quota in less than 90 days. In the process, Steve also built several new sales teams focused on addressing complex client solutions and acquiring new accounts. Steve has built these organizations by recruiting, hiring, training and providing sales leadership coaching.

In 2011, Steve led Verizon Terremark’s Sales and Operations division in Latin America, Canada and Caribbean to exceed their annual quotas by 211%. Steve was instrumental in the expansion of Managed Security Services in Latin America and was a keynote speaker in over 20+ security seminars throughout Latin America, Caribbean and Canada in both Spanish and English including doing a briefing for CBS.

Steve’s areas of special interest include sustainable and resilient security operations, data security and privacy, and process specification, certification, and management. Steve has been a speaker at Healthcare, Energy/Utility & Financial Services conferences, and frequently is asked to address clients regarding security trends and data breach intelligence. He is also an expert at building high-performance sales teams, leadership development, coaching and mentoring toward business outcomes, designing multi-tiered security architectures in distributed environments with focuses on risk analysis, security consulting, project management, PCI compliance, GRC and threat modeling. Description

Steve and his wife Arlene have been married for 26 years and have two children; Bailey (22 yrs. old) and Cooper (16 yrs. old). They reside in Ridgefield, CT and have taught at seminars and conferences on the following topics: Successful Marriages, Parenting Resilient Children, Leadership Development, and Leading High Performing Sales Teams. Steve began his career in security in 1990 when he was studying Computer Science at New York University. His insatiable desire to learn and genuine curiosity led him to information security and protecting sensitive data; initially as a database programmer and then as a security consultant.
